Run, Bike, Unite Duathlon

The 2013 United Way of Portage County Run, Bike, Unite Duathlon will feature a number of exciting changes, including the addition of a Kids' Duathlon the night before the main event and a non-competitive event -- the Just for Fun Duathlon -- after the competitive racers take off.

The Full Duathlon will take place Saturday, August 24, at 8:30 am at Sentry Insurance, 1800 North Point Drive, Stevens Point. The event is again limited to 800 participants, so be sure to register as early as possible.

EVENT INFORMATION

The Full Duathlon -- Saturday, Aug. 24, at 8:30 a.m.

  • Chip-timed event
  • Event starts at Sentry Insurance Headquarters
  • Consists of a two-mile run, a 14-mile bike  and another two-mile run to the finish
  • Flat bike course through scenic rural areas
  • Two run courses
  • First run course is on paved streets
  • Second run course is a shaded trail run  through beautiful Schmeeckle Reserve  on the Green Circle Trail
  • Packet pick-up will be Friday, August 23, from 4 – 7 p.m. or Saturday, Aug. 24, from 6:30 - 8 a.m. at Sentry Insurance, 1800 North Point Dr., Stevens Point
  • Mandatory  pre-race meeting: 8:15 a.m.

 

Just For Fun Duathlon -- Saturday, Aug. 24, at 8:40 a.m.

  • This event is not timed
  • Participants will receive different colored bibs from Full Duathlon participants
  • Participants will receive event T-shirt
  • Shortened routes -- two-mile first run course, eight-mile bike course and a 1/4-mile dash to the finish.

 

Kids' Duathlon -- Friday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m.

  • Event will take place at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point
  • Participants will receive event T-shirt
  • Classes: 6 to 8 year olds -- 1/4-mile run, two-mile bike, and 1/4-mile run; 9 to 11 year olds -- 1/4-mile run, two-mile bike, and 1/4-mile run; 12 to 14 year olds -- 1/2-mile run, four-mile bike, and 1/2-mile run.

RULES

  • Helmets are mandatory on bike course –  participants exiting transition without helmet  will be pulled and disqualified from the event
  • No outside assistance is allowed except  by race staff
  • No MP3 players, iPODs, radios or headphones allowed due to traffic concerns
  • Complimentary on-site massages, pre-race bike safety checks and on-course bike repairs will  be provided

 

Central Wisconsin Duathlon Triple Crown
Are you up for the challenge of competing in 3 races featured throughout Central WI this summer? Then sign up for the Triple Crown Duathlon Challenge! United Way’s Run, Bike, Unite Duathlon will be the final race of the challenge. The first takes place June 15 at 8 a.m. at the Woodson YMCA/Badger State Games Duathlon in Wausau and the second will be held on July 27 at the Hub City Days Duathlon in Marshfield. Participate in all three events individually to complete the Triple Crown challenge.
