Volunteer Center Programs
In addition to the Volunteer Center's daily operations, the Center also organizes several community-wide initiatives throughout the year to promote volunteerism and build a stronger community.
Project Fresh Start
The start of a new school year means buying school supplies. For lower-income families, it can be a time when money is tight. Through Project Fresh Start, these families can receive the school supplies their children need to be prepared for school. Project Fresh Start relies on the support of our community to collect and donate the supplies. Learn more...
Make A Difference Day
Each year, at the end of October, hundreds of volunteers come out in force to rake leaves for elderly individuals and people with disabilities who would otherwise struggle to tackle the large task of preparing their yard for winter.
National Volunteer Week Recognition Insert
The Volunteer Center has teamed up with the Stevens Point Journal to honor volunteers and their tremendous efforts in our community through a special publication available during National Volunteer Week in April.
Youth Flyer Program
In partnership with the Stevens Point Area Public School District, the United Way Volunteer Center distributes information about youth programs in our community to students in Kindergarten through grade six. Eligible nonprofit organizations can submit information about upcoming events and programs that benefit youth, and approved flyers are compiled and sent home with students on a monthly basis.
FLEX Projects Program
The United Way Volunteer Center makes it easy for individuals and groups to make a difference in the community by offering a variety of convenient and flexible, low-commitment volunteer opportunities that support various Portage County nonprofits programs. These projects are the core of our FLEX Projects Program.
