Surveys to be mailed for 2012 LIFE Report

WATCH FOR THE YELLOW ENVELOPE

Nearly 4,000 Portage County households will be randomly selected to participate in a LIFE (Local Indicators for Excellence) survey being conducted by community partners in order generate a LIFE Report that will help guide action to improve life in Portage County.

Non-Profit Board Training Workshop

United Way Emerging Leaders of Portage County’s Annual Non-profit Board Training workshop will take place November 1 and November 8, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (Lincoln Center) in Stevens Point. Dinner will be provided. Registrants should plan to attend both nights and will receive a certificate of completion.

Project Fresh Start & Project Fresh Clothes

Project Fresh Start provides school supplies to students in Portage County living below poverty level. Roughly one-third of children attending Portage County Schools are eligible. For these children and their families, paying for basic school supplies can be a difficult financial burden and families are often forced to choose between paying for school supplies and paying for basic needs like food or utility bills. This year, almost 3,000 students qualify to participate in this program.

United Way Speakers' Bureau

United Way is working to advance the common good in Portage County by focusing on the issues of EDUCATION, INCOME and HEALTH. You're invited to join United Way in educating the community about one of these issues through our Speakers' Bureau.

The Dan Sandstrom Memorial Walleye Tournament

The Fifth Annual Dan Sandstrom Memorial Walleye Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 6th, 2011 from 7 A.M. to 3 P.M. with raffle proceeds to benefit the Achievement Center for Early Intervention, a United Way Partner Program.

The take-off for the fishing tournament will be at Bukolt Park. Tournament results and a raffle will start at 4 P.M. at the Moose Family Center. The public is invited to attend and can participate in the raffle.

Day of Action Update

United Way Emerging Leaders of Portage County gave back to their community on the longest day of the year by volunteering to paint the basement of the Plover location Boys & Girls Club on June 21, the longest day of the year. Some members also spent time with Club members as part of the Club's LEAP Program (Literacy Enrichment and Arts Program).
