United Way of Portage County
- Campaign Exceeds $2.4 million

At the United Way of Portage County victory celebration at SentryWorld on December 2, supporters came together to celebrate the power of a caring community. Campaign co-chair Steve Regnier turned over cards spelling out “We Believe” to reveal the total contributed by local residents and companies this year to be $2,441,198, exceeding the $2.35 million goal by $91,198.

Steve Regnier said, “You’ve heard us use the phrase ‘We Believe” several times throughout today’s presentation. But, we know that it takes more than just belief to reach an ambitious goal like this. It takes everyone working together. Jeanne and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this campaign a success. We are honored by your commitment and dedication, and proud to share this moment with each of you.”

Sue Wilcox, Executive Director of United Way of Portage County agreed, “When we look at this amazing accomplishment, we are incredibly grateful to the businesses, organizations, and individuals that gave so generously to build a stronger community in Portage County.”

Reinforcing the generosity of this community, United Way of America recently released data comparing the performance of local United Ways across the country for 2008.  When compared with other communities of similar size, United Way of Portage County ranked third in the country for the amount of money raised per capita. When compared to all United Ways in Wisconsin, Portage County ranked third for the amount raised per capita and first for campaign growth from 2007 to 2008.

In addition to the results announcement, attendees celebrated with a presentation showcasing campaign highlights as well as examples of how campaign funds are invested to improve lives here in Portage County through partner programs and initiatives like CAP Services and Ministry Dental Center. During the program, prize sponsors presented the winners of the workplace raffle drawing with their respective prizes.

Looking ahead to the future, Sue Wilcox, Executive Director stated, “Today, we celebrate the power of a caring community to overcome challenges and build a brighter future for us all.”
