United Way Selects Children’s Service Society for New Program
Stevens Point, WI – February 13, 2012– United Way of Portage County in partnership with Portage County Health and Human Services recently selected Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin as the agency that will provide programming for Family Outreach and Support Services, a new program that will provide support to parents and caregivers throughout Portage County.
Children’s Service Society has been a United Way partner agency for many years. Their current United Way partner program, Child and Family Counseling, provides counseling services to all residents of Portage County on a sliding fee basis. They provide individual and family counseling to help with academic or behavioral school problems, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, problems due to divorce or separation, parent-child conflicts, and physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.
“We are very excited to serve children and families in Portage County through this prevention program,” said Sue Wilcox, executive director at United Way of Portage County. “Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin has an excellent reputation for providing similar services in counties across the state of Wisconsin. We are confident this program will help our community’s families create nurturing environments for their children to thrive.”
Family Outreach and Support Services will provide an in-home parent education program and group based parenting education sessions. The in-home program is designed to provide hands on support to parents. Parents will learn the skills needed to help them positively parent their children in even the most difficult circumstances. Group based parenting programs will be offered for parents of teens and for parents of younger school aged children to help parents successfully manage their children’s behavior through positive parenting practices. The new programs will promote positive behavior in children and strengthen parent/child relationships.
