Going into its seventh year of programming, United Way of Portage County’s Learn for Life Reading Program is seeking second- and third-grade reading tutors to help students at 14 schools throughout Portage County.
Learn for Life utilizes trained volunteer reading tutors who meet individually with students, a tutor commitment of a total of one hour per week during the school day. Tutoring sessions are individualized and based off of the student’s needs. Program data is collected and assessed throughout the year. Substitute tutor options are available as well.
The goal of the Learn for Life is to increase reading achievement in the community so that all children, in Portage County, who are able, are proficient in reading by the time they finish third grade.
