CAP Services - Family Crisis Center

Jennifer entered shelter after a physical altercation with her husband that resulted in a broken arm and head injury. Jennifer was provided with time and a safer place to begin her healing journey. Shelter Advocates were available to provide emotional support and space for Jennifer to share to increase her well-being, as she began to create her plan for her next steps. Jennifer safety planned, extensively, with Shelter Advocates, as she feared her husband's reaction once he discovered she was not returning home. With Advocates support, Jennifer gathered community resources that proved to be valuable in achieving her employment and housing goals.

Jennifer also worked with Outreach Advocates navigating the complex legal system and court processes as she filed for divorce and a restraining order. With time and Jennifer's perseverance, she was able to find an employer who was willing to give her work within her abilities as her arm healed, and affordable housing followed. Jennifer continues to contact the crisis line and seeks outreach support as she continues to navigate legal systems with the charges that were filed against her husband for the injuries she sustained. Jennifer has shared that her time in shelter gave her the opportunity to breathe and recognize she deserves to live a life without violence.
