What is Learn For Life?

In partnership with Portage County school districts, local businesses, and community members, the Learn for Life program matches trained volunteers with 2nd and 3rd grade students to help facilitate the development of proficient grade level readers. From birth until 3rd grade, children are learning to read, building the foundations of literacy. After 3rd grade, it is critical that students have developed a firm foundation of literacy skills so students can READ TO LEARN.

The Learn for Life program matches volunteer tutors with students in 2nd and 3rd grade who have been identified by their classroom teachers as those who need extra help building reading skills. Each year, Learn for Life relies on compassionate and caring community volunteers to provide one-on-one reading tutoring to early learners in the communities in which we live. Volunteers work directly with students on a weekly basis and have the power to help boost academic achievement for a child, and mentor our children with a genuine hope that the results of this program result in a brighter future for all those involved!
